Reimagine Soldier Field Coalition

Soldier Field Renovations

Chicago, IL

The oldest stadium in the NFL, Soldier Field, opened in 1924 and today hosts an estimated 194 events welcoming 1.4 million people annually. The stadium is an icon in the City of Chicago and the sports world. A business, civic & community coalition is exploring options to modernize the stadium to deliver a world-class venue and an exceptional new experience to Chicago’s spectators. Soldier Field currently has two primary tenants—the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer—and regularly hosts major concerts and other entertainment events. One of EwingCole’s proposed renovations, designed in collaboration with Landmark Development, includes a new domed roof and enclosure envelope, providing a climate-controlled environment for fans and event-goers. The facility features multiple design concepts for hosting special events and expanded seating and amenities to enhance the guest experience. The plans ensure Soldier’s Field’s year-round use, a comfortable environment throughout the year, and the possibility of increasing capacity to 70,000 for specific events. "EwingCole’s sports architects and engineers worked collaboratively with our project development team throughout the process to develop a comprehensive and compelling vision for the re-imagination of Soldier Field. From the ground level to the upper club areas, the designs, renderings, and animations they prepared really brought the stadium designs to life. Because EwingCole is a multidisciplinary firm with MEP and structural engineers with stadium expertise in-house, we were able to advance stadium concepts very quickly and receive more coordinated, accurate cost estimates from contractors."
