William Penn Charter School

Lower School

Philadelphia, PA

William Penn Charter School, the oldest Quaker school in the country, provides their students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in a complex world. Throughout the comprehensive master planning process, WPCS stakeholders envisioned a campus transformation that includes an Academic Village with a new lower school designed for their curriculum and teachers and for how children learn and grow. EwingCole designed the 78,000-SF, three-story school to accommodate future trends in learning. The Lower School will be home to:

  • Learning communities for pre-K to 5
  • Spaces for studio, movement, flex; language, STEAM, art, music; IdeaLab, woodshop
  • An activities gymnasium
  • Easy access to outdoor learning spaces
  • Community spaces
  • Hardscape and natural play spaces
