Founded in 1863, Hospital for Special Surgery is the world’s leading academic medical center focused on musculoskeletal health and the choice of patients from more than 80 countries and all 50 States. The new Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Tower expands the hospital’s single patient beds, outpatient imaging program, and clinic space. EwingCole provided core, shell, and fit-out design services for the 12-story project entirely situated over FDR drive. When complete, Kellen Tower will accommodate increasing patient volumes and help retain HSS’ preeminent position in the New York City healthcare market. EwingCole is also working with the hospital to implement the 2025 master plan, which includes decanting the program to the Kellen Tower and backfilling with additional operating rooms, support space, physician practices, and increasing single-bed inpatient rooms.
