Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Michie Stadium Preservation Project at West Point
New York, NY – The West Point Association of Graduates and the Army West Point Athletics Association recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Michie Stadium Preservation Project. The event marks the beginning of a transformative journey to modernize the iconic Michie Stadium, a project proudly designed by EwingCole.
The Michie Stadium Preservation Project honors the stadium’s 100-year history while providing a world-class experience for cadets, graduates, families, and fans. The new East Stands complex will replace the original 1962 structure, enhancing the stadium precinct as a vibrant everyday athletic hub while reinforcing one of the best collegiate game-day experiences in the country. EwingCole’s design integrates contemporary design strategies with West Point’s deep-rooted values of sacrifice and service to the country, ensuring that the new complex is both dynamic and eco-friendly.
“The Michie Stadium Preservation Project is a testament to the Academy’s commitment to honoring its history while embracing the future,” said Bill McCullough, AIA, EwingCole’s director of Sports & Entertainment. “We are honored to contribute to a project that will enhance the game-day experience and resonate with the spirit of service and excellence that defines the United States Military Academy. We are proud to play a part in shaping the next chapter of this storied institution and amazing venue overlooking Lusk Reservoir and the Hudson Valley.”
Construction began in April of this year, as the old east stands were demolished. The project’s expected completion, which will rebuild and modernize the current East Stands, is anticipated for Summer 2026.
We were thrilled to celebrate this momentous occasion and thank all who have supported this project.
