Michie Stadium Preservation

West Point, NY

The Army Black Knights football team represents the United States Military Academy in Division I college football. The Black Knights currently play home games in Michie Stadium with a capacity of 38,000 at West Point, New York. Built in 1962, the East Stands building has served its purpose admirably, but lacks certain key features modern fans expect, and is therefore in need of replacement. EwingCole is programming, planning, and designing a dynamic, modern, and eco-friendly East Stands complex that synthesizes the project’s physical requirements, and sensitively binds them to its historic and majestic site. The project reinforces West Point’s institutional values of sacrifice and service to country, while at the same time deploying contemporary design strategies with respect to collegiate athletics spaces, technology integration, fan experience, and sustainability.

"EwingCole Sports has been working on Post since 2009 when they first designed our USMA Prep School athletic facilities. Since then they have completed an Athletic Master plan identifying Michie Stadium East Stands as one of our premier projects. They won the competition to design our East Stands project currently under construction. We’ve trusted their sports team to deliver our most prominent athletic project despite all the challenges we’ve faced as part of the post-pandemic market. They are persistent and have kept our interests at the forefront of the design and construction process."
