EwingCole and ECBuild Celebrate Completion of PNC Field Renovation, Home of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders

Moosic, PA (April 2025) –EwingCole, a leading architecture, engineering, and interior design firm, and ECBuild, EwingCole’s affiliated construction management firm, proudly announce the completion of significant renovations at PNC Field, the 10,000-seat home of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. The project responds to Major League Baseball’s (MLB) mandate for compliance with the latest Player Development League (PDL) Facility Standards and Lackawanna County’s commitment to ensuring PNC Field remains a best-in-class facility for Minor League Baseball for years to come.

“By exceeding the minimum facility standards, this renovation has set a new bar for player development facilities in the Minor Leagues,” said EwingCole Principal Craig Schmitt, RA. “And we are incredibly thrilled with the quality and speed with which this project came together.”

The project commenced in September 2024, immediately following the conclusion of the International League season, and reached completion in March 2025, ahead of the RailRiders’ April 8th home opener.

Project Highlights:

  • Enhanced Player Facilities –

The renovation includes an 18,060-square-foot overhaul of the home clubhouse, featuring a 5,240-square-foot expansion. Upgrades encompass modernized locker rooms, dedicated commissaries, enhanced strength and conditioning facilities, and dedicated hitting tunnels with state-of-the-art video coaching technology.

  • Support for Female Staff –

In alignment with MLB’s Professional Development League (PDL) standards, the project adds dedicated facilities for female staff on the home and visiting teams and umpires.

  • Improved Visiting Team Amenities –

In addition to upgrades to the visitors’ existing clubhouse, a new 3,400-square-foot standalone batting tunnel facility with two tunnels has been constructed for the exclusive use of the visiting team.

Unified Team

EwingCole worked closely with ECBuild to ensure the project met stringent deadlines and quality benchmarks. The collaborative effort resulted in seamless coordination from design through construction, resulting in a facility that was delivered on time and on budget.

“Delivering this project on an accelerated construction timeline required unwavering collaboration and precision across the entire team,” said ECBuild President Ivan Kuncheff. “We’re proud to have played a role in ensuring PNC Field remains one of the premier ballparks in Minor League Baseball and is a top-tier facility for player development.”
