PNC Field Renovation

Moosic, PA

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, have long provided top-tier baseball entertainment to northeastern Pennsylvania. As expectations around the fan experience evolved, the organization recognized that their outdated 1989 stadium no longer met the standards of modern minor league ballparks. The steep upper deck, limited amenities, and multipurpose design lacked the character and intimacy fans increasingly value.

To reposition the ballpark as a premier destination, the RailRiders partnered on a $43 million PNC Field renovation that retained only the lower seating bowl, playing field, and home clubhouse. The new design concentrates all non-premium seating in the lower bowl to bring fans closer to the action, while premium suites and club seating now sit above the main concourse, improving sightlines and access.

The renovation introduced multiple general admission options, including tiered picnic areas and lawn seating, to accommodate a broader range of fan preferences. New concessions, restrooms, upgraded operations, and administrative spaces support seamless functionality for both game day and year-round use.

The result is a vibrant, fan-centric stadium that enhances the RailRiders’ connection to their community and delivers the charm and comfort expected of today’s minor league baseball venues.

“EwingCole has done a tremendous job on the design of our ballpark renovation.  The skill, creativity and leadership they showed are what we needed to make this project a reality.  This ballpark renovation is going to transform the experience of attending a game in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and we couldn’t be more excited about that for our fans.”
