The New York Giants and New York Jets, two of the NFL’s most iconic franchises, set out to create a shared stadium unlike any other—a world-class facility that reflects both teams equally while providing an unparalleled fan experience. Their ambition was to build the only professional sports venue in the country that serves as the home field for two teams in the same league.
EwingCole led the architectural delivery of MetLife Stadium, a 2.1-million-square-foot NFL venue located in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Designed to be neutral, adaptable, and bold in scale, the stadium was completed on time and within its $1.6 billion budget. It stands among the largest stadiums in the NFL and has become one of the most recognized in global sports.
A signature design feature is the aluminum fin façade, which can be dynamically lit to represent the Giants or the Jets, depending on the game. This second skin gives MetLife a unifying identity while allowing for team-specific branding on game days.
The stadium features 200,000 square feet of dining and retail space, including a team store and a Hall of Fame, as well as four Cornerstone entertainment venues, suites, club seats, and premium seating with unobstructed sightlines. Four high-definition LED displays, located in each corner, elevate the live experience for fans.
MetLife Stadium meets both client and fan expectations, striking a balance between state-of-the-art amenities and environmental responsibility through energy and water conservation strategies. Today, the venue serves as a dynamic hub for football, concerts, and global events, with the capacity and infrastructure to host marquee competitions, such as the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
