Prince George’s Stadium to Undergo $50 Million Renovation

February 1, 2025

Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie, Maryland, is set to receive significant renovations as part of a $50 million upgrade project. The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), in partnership with the Maryland Stadium Authority (MSA) and Attain Sports, owner of the Chesapeake Baysox, announced plans to modernize the stadium to enhance both player and fan experiences.

Major Renovations Planned

Originally opened in 1994, Prince George’s Stadium has been a key venue for professional baseball and community events for over 30 years. The planned upgrades align with a broader initiative by the State of Maryland, which in 2022 authorized MSA to allocate up to $200 million for sports entertainment facilities statewide. A primary focus of this initiative is addressing Major League Baseball (MLB) Player Development League (PDL) requirements for minor league stadiums.

Attain Sports, which acquired the Chesapeake Baysox (formerly the Bowie Baysox) in 2021, holds a lease at the stadium through 2032, with options extending through 2042.

The project team includes Gilbane as the lead design-build contractor, with design partner EwingCole. The Canopy Team will support Attain Sports and M-NCPPC throughout the design process. The design phase will continue into early 2025, with construction scheduled to begin in March 2025 and extend into 2026. The upgrades are not expected to disrupt the Chesapeake Baysox’s playing season.
