The Mann Center for the Performing Arts

Welcome Center

Philadelphia, PA

The Mann Center for the Performing Arts is a cornerstone of Philadelphia’s cultural scene, known for its rich history, orchestral legacy, and diverse programming. As its mission has expanded to encompass a diverse range of performances and community engagement, the Mann has identified the need for a new welcome center and enhanced public amenities to better serve contemporary audiences.

Constrained by the limits of the former footprint, the new entry plaza will triple in size, creating a more gracious, garden-like entry experience that enhances the first impression for guests upon arrival. This will provide adequate space for queuing at concessions, merchandise stands, and restrooms.

To support this evolution, EwingCole developed a design strategy that reinforces the Mann’s connection to Fairmount Park by blending natural elements from the landscape into both the exterior and interior architecture. Public-facing spaces feature elevated finishes that reflect the venue’s artistic spirit, while support areas use simpler, durable materials to ensure functionality and longevity.

This approach creates a seamless experience between the plaza and the building, reinforcing the venue’s identity and commitment to accessibility, hospitality, and culture. The result is a welcoming, flexible environment that strengthens the Mann’s role as a dynamic hub for the performing arts in Philadelphia.
