South Dining Hall

Kutztown, PA

Kutztown University Dining Services is responsible for providing meal plan options that are diverse and meet the nutritional and dietary needs of the University community. After studying the culinary needs and desires of the student body, the University developed a master plan to fulfill student dining preferences and enhance the broader campus experience known as the ‘Anytime Dining’ program. As the architect of record, EwingCole worked alongside Stantec to develop this phase of the renovation of the South Dining Hall – the most significant project outlined in the master plan. The renovation reorganized the ground floor to provide a lounge and gaming area, a formal dining room, and a stage for performances and events. These spaces, connected by central seating around a large fireplace, provide a stimulating and social experience and set a precedent for the future of campus dining. A variety of furniture types and layered seating areas create a range of choices for individuals and groups. The added mix of soft seating, games, and digital entertainment enhances the variety of spaces available to more fully support the social side of the ‘anytime’ concept.
