Soldier Field Renovations

Chicago, IL

The oldest stadium in the NFL, Soldier Field, opened in 1924 and today hosts an estimated 194 events welcoming 1.4 million people annually. The stadium is an icon in the City of Chicago and the sports world. The city is exploring options to modernize the stadium with the goal of delivering a world-class venue and an exceptional new experience to Chicago’s spectators. It has two primary tenants—the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer—and regularly hosts major concerts and other entertainment events. One of EwingCole’s proposed renovations, designed in collaboration with Landmark Development, includes a new domed roof and enclosure envelope, providing a climate-controlled environment for fans and eventgoers. The facility features multiple design concepts for hosting specialty events and expanded seating and amenities to enhance the guest experience. The plans, released by the mayor at a press conference on July 25th, ensure Soldier’s Field’s year-round use, a comfortable environment throughout the year, and the possibility for increasing capacity to 70,000 for certain events.
