MaST Community Charter School earned a National Blue Ribbon Schools award in 2017. Subsequently, the School District of Philadelphia awarded the organization a charter to educate an additional 900 students, prompting the need for a third campus to serve its expanding student body. EwingCole performed master planning, programming, and design to support MaST III’s STEM plus Arts and Robotics model. The master plan prioritized the work and provided flexibility for year-by-year increases to the student body. The project includes renovating a 234,000 SF office building into a teaching facility. The design reinforces MaST’s brand while creating a unique campus identity. The design team also found inventive solutions to reconfigure existing demountable partitions that once defined private offices and office workstations to support a thriving classroom environment. The recently completed second phase includes a new, free-standing 14,000 SF competition gymnasium, an education garden, a playground, and improved circulation throughout the campus.
