Deborah Heart And Lung Center

Building Expansion & Renovation

Browns Mills, NJ

Deborah Heart and Lung Center, an Alliance Member of the Cleveland Clinic Heart Vascular & Thoracic Institute, has been delivering the highest quality inpatient and outpatient services to diagnose and treat heart, lung, and vascular disease regionally for almost 100 years. EwingCole, a design and construction partner of Deborah’s for 40 years, developed a campus-wide master plan to guide future construction projects. The master plan identified a comprehensive building project that includes constructing a new patient tower with private inpatient units, resulting in the conversion of all existing double occupancy inpatient rooms to private. The centerpiece of this $55M improvement is a three-story overbuild. Two floors are dedicated to ICU-level care, while the third floor is for infrastructure and staff support. Exterior renovations include recladding the front of the existing building, enabling the Hospital to align its image with its mission while providing a warm and welcoming entrance. The master plan identified campus infrastructure improvements like emergency backup power generation and chilled water system upgrades. The departments to be renovated include two existing inpatient bed units, an observation unit, and equipment replacement of the invasive imaging suites.
