Goucher College Breaks Ground on New Judy C. Lewent ’70 Science Center

Baltimore, MD (April 2025) – Goucher College recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the Judy C. Lewent ’70 Science Center, a $50 million expansion designed by EwingCole. The new 44,000-square-foot facility will modernize and expand Goucher’s science education capabilities, replacing outdated labs with state-of-the-art research and learning environments.

The Science Center will house laboratories and flexible teaching spaces supporting molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, environmental science, neuroscience, and genomics. Designed in collaboration with Gilbane Building Company, Pennoni, and RMF Engineering, the facility is being built to meet LEED certification standards, reflecting Goucher’s and EwingCole’s shared commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

The new center, scheduled for completion in 2027, is a cornerstone of Goucher’s strategy to prepare students for careers at the intersection of science, technology, and innovation. A generous $10 million donation from alumna Judy C. Lewent and her husband will help fund the project, marking one of the most significant gifts in Goucher’s history.

EwingCole is honored to partner with Goucher College to help advance its academic mission and create an environment that inspires discovery, collaboration, and interdisciplinary learning.
