EwingCole Designs $880 Million Expansion for Geisinger Medical Center

Philadelphia, PA (April 2025) – We are thrilled to debut the design of Geisinger‘s $880 million expansion project at its main campus in Danville, Pennsylvania. Designed by EwingCole’s Health & Wellness team, this transformative project includes an 11-story tower with an associated parking deck and renovation to the existing main entrance and drop-off sequence, enhancing the hospital’s capacity to provide world-class healthcare.

With a design process focused on research, collaboration, integrated project delivery, user engagement, and patient experience, the project will dramatically alter and improve the Geisinger Medical Center campus with modern spaces and tools to meet the region’s current and future healthcare needs.

Key features of the new tower include:

• 192 patient rooms to transition the campus to 100% private rooms on the hospital’s adult medical-surgical units.
• An expanded emergency department, doubling the current space.
• New operating suite featuring the latest technology for improved patient care and treatment of the highest acuity cases.

This project marks the most significant expansion in Geisinger Medical Center’s nearly 110-year history, following its last major campus expansion in 2010.
