Patient Pavilion

Camden, NJ

Cooper University Hospital, a leading academic medical center in southern New Jersey, launched its first major building project in nearly three decades with a vision beyond clinical care. The goal is to enhance the patient and staff experience, increase visibility in the healthcare market, and contribute meaningfully to the revitalization of Camden.

The resulting 10-story patient pavilion delivers on all fronts. Clad in glass and metal panel accents to convey transparency and accessibility, the pavilion adds 90 private patient beds, a larger emergency department, new operating rooms, a modern intensive care unit, and expanded clinical labs. It also includes visitor amenities and shell space for future growth.

Inside, natural and indirect lighting, bamboo accents, and warm materials create a calming atmosphere, providing a welcoming environment for patients and their families. Outside, the pavilion connects the hospital to the community with new public green space, part of Cooper’s broader commitment to improving the quality of life in Camden.

This landmark project expands Cooper’s capabilities and serves as a beacon of healing, hope, and renewal for the city it serves.

“This new Pavilion marks a rebirth for the hospital and this great city we have called home for more than 120 years. Our already existing superior care is now matched by a facility that casts shadows on others in the region.”

– George Norcross, III, Chairman of the Hospital Board of Trustees – Cooper University Hospital
