The Best Seats in the House
Rooted in tradition and the essence of a city, Citizens Bank Park redefines the fan experience through timeless design, community engagement, and continuous innovation, making it one of the best ballparks in the US.
Citizens Bank Park
Philadelphia, PA
At the turn of the 21st century, the Philadelphia Phillies sought a home of their own—one that would capture the spirit of baseball’s golden age while embracing the expectations of today’s fans. The team no longer wished to share Veterans Stadium with the Eagles and envisioned a venue that felt purpose-built for America’s pastime.
Inspired by the great pre-war ballparks, the design of Citizens Bank Park introduced a classic, intimate atmosphere with modern amenities, state-of-the-art technologies, and a strong connection to Philadelphia’s architectural legacy. Situated in the heart of the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, the 43,500-seat stadium transforms a former industrial site into a vibrant, accessible destination for fans across generations.
Every Seat is the Best Seat in the House
The design team behind Citizens Bank Park and the Phillies recognized this shift and set clear goals to enhance the fan experience. Their innovative strategies translated into technical and planning solutions that have become hallmarks of the park’s success.
One of the primary design goals was to create a seating bowl with unobstructed, spectacular views from every seat.
To maintain unobstructed sightlines, first line of supporting columns is located behind the furthest seat in the lower seating bowl. This creates cantilevered conditions at the Suite, Club, and Upper Concourse Levels. Not one of the stadium’s 42,901 seats has an obstructed view.
As fans enter the main street-level gate, they have a clear visual connection through the concourse to the field. That’s because the field is recessed 23 feet below the street, creating a clear path to the 100-level seats. All fixed concessions on each concourse and structural elements are set away from the field, allowing fans to view the game while walking the concourse.
Inside, concourses are lined with food and beverage options, retail offerings, and gathering spaces that ensure the experience extends beyond the field. The stadium’s configuration makes game day feel immersive and communal, reinforcing Citizens Bank Park as a gathering place for the city.
Enhancing the Fan Journey
After 14 successful seasons, the Phillies reengaged EwingCole to lead a two-year capital improvement program aimed at strengthening the fan experience.
Completed between 2018 and 2019, the $45M project included:
- A revamped left-field plaza with boardwalk-style concessions and patio seating
- The Yard: a 13,000-square-foot interactive kids’ zone with a Wiffle ball field, hot dog launcher, climbing wall, speed pitch, and ice cream bar
- Renovated suites for 40–70 guests, offering climate-controlled lounges and premium views
- Updated LED lighting, new sound systems, and improved concourse finishes to enhance visual and audio impact
- The “Wall of Fame” area pays tribute to Phillies greats, offering a deeper connection to the team’s storied history.
These upgrades reinforced Citizens Bank Park’s standing as one of the most family-friendly and engaging stadiums in Major League Baseball.
A Ballpark That Grows with Its City
Citizens Bank Park reflects a careful balance of past and future, experience and innovation. Whether through its architecture, evolving amenities, or advanced technology, the stadium continues to embody the energy of Philadelphia and the enduring legacy of Phillies baseball.
“This is by far one of the best sports venues to play and to come watch a game. It’s because of this atmosphere that players want to come here, or they want to get out on the bus and get the hell out. Philly is not for weakness.”
– Cole Hamels, Pitcher
