South Shore University Hospital’s new bed tower will bring advanced inpatient services and surgical care to Suffolk County while honoring Bay Shore’s coastal character.
South Shore University Hospital Pavilion
Bay Shore, NY
South Shore University Hospital (SSUH), ranked among the nation’s top 50 hospitals for heart surgery, continues to expand its services and elevate care for Suffolk County residents. As Northwell Health’s flagship facility in the region, SSUH identified the need for a new patient pavilion to accommodate growing demand and improve patient outcomes.
The six-story addition enhances inpatient capacity and surgical capabilities, featuring new operating rooms, inpatient beds, and support services. The project also introduces green spaces, public areas, and a sky bridge that links the new facility to the existing campus.
The design team collaborated with multidisciplinary clinical groups to create a healing environment that improves operational flow, fosters flexibility and maintains a sense of calm. A patterned glass façade enhances patient privacy while allowing natural light and expansive views of the Bay Shore and the nearby ocean. The design reflects the spirit of the surrounding community while advancing SSUH’s mission of exceptional care.
