Giving Hope, One Family at a Time
This expansive project provides families with a welcoming, supportive home for families in medical crisis.
Jill & Allen Miller Tower & Renovation
Philadelphia, PA
The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House (PRMH) has long provided comfort and support to families with seriously ill children receiving care at nearby hospitals. But before its recent expansion, the organization had to turn away four out of five families seeking accommodations due to limited space.
PRMH launched a $50 million expansion and renovation to meet this critical need, including the new eight-story Jill & Allen Miller Tower. Designed to complement the original 19th-century Victorian mansion, the tower forms a respectful backdrop to the historic structure while introducing new amenities such as dual-level patios and healing gardens.
Every space, from the lobby to the kitchens, play areas, and guest rooms, was thoughtfully designed to foster a sense of openness, comfort, and security. High-functioning rooms accommodate a wide range of medical and personal needs, including a dedicated immunosuppressant floor for families requiring additional protection.
With this expansion, PRMH has doubled its capacity and significantly expanded its impact, ensuring more families have access to the care, support, and stability they need during some of life’s most difficult moments.
“Before the expansion, we were turning away four out of five families on their first request to stay due to a lack of space at our Chestnut Street House. We wanted to be able to help as many families as possible and we were glad to have EwingCole as our design partners to help us every step of the way to make our dream a reality.”
