The American Red Cross (ARC) plays a vital role in emergency response and public health by ensuring the availability of safe, high-quality blood products nationwide. As part of its 10-year, $1 billion strategic capital investment initiative, the ARC identified the need for a modern, high-capacity facility to serve the growing demands of the Atlanta region.
The new 182,000-square-foot regional blood processing center supports a full range of services—from blood collection and component processing to storage and distribution. The two-story facility also houses administrative and executive offices, donor suitability screening, education and training areas, production planning, recruitment, and telemarketing operations.
Designed to meet current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) standards and align with the FDA’s Code of Federal Regulations for blood handling and processing, the center prioritizes safety, efficiency, and quality. The layout optimizes the movement of people, products, waste, supplies, and information throughout the building, standardizing operations to reduce risk and enhance productivity.
This facility reinforces the ARC’s commitment to innovation, safety, and lifesaving service—positioning Atlanta as a key hub in a nationwide network dedicated to delivering blood products where they’re needed most.
