Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field Renovation

Atlanta, GA

Georgia Institute of Technology Athletics has built one of the nation’s most respected collegiate athletic programs, competing at the highest levels of the Atlantic Coast Conference while fostering a rich football tradition dating back to 1892. As fan expectations continue to evolve, the university sought to reimagine Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field by enhancing comfort, accessibility, hospitality, and technology while respecting the venue’s historic character.

As the oldest continuously used on-campus stadium in the Football Bowl Subdivision, Bobby Dodd Stadium presents a unique design challenge: modernizing the game-day experience without compromising the identity that makes the venue one of college football’s most recognizable landmarks. As part of Georgia Tech Athletics’ Full Steam Ahead initiative, the project establishes a long-term vision that prepares the stadium for future generations of Yellow Jackets fans.

Designed for Today’s Fans

Premium hospitality experiences are a central component of the renovation. EwingCole’s design reimagines the stadium’s club and suite offerings, including renovations to existing premium spaces and the creation of new hospitality environments that support a wide range of fan experiences. These spaces incorporate upgraded finishes, enhanced food-and-beverage offerings, integrated audiovisual technology, and flexible layouts designed to serve both game-day functions and year-round events.

The renovation focuses on creating a more comfortable, engaging, and inclusive fan experience throughout the stadium. Approximately 12,500 existing bleacher seats will be replaced with mesh chairback seating in key areas, improving spectator comfort while maintaining the intimate atmosphere that defines Bobby Dodd Stadium. A new state-of-the-art videoboard, upgraded sound system, and enhanced audiovisual technology will further elevate the energy and excitement of game day.

Improving Access and Connection

The project also enhances circulation and accessibility throughout the venue by widening aisles, adding additional handrails, expanding ADA accommodations, and upgrading social and food service areas to improve comfort for all attendees. Modernized press and operational spaces enhance behind-the-scenes functionality while supporting the stadium’s evolving operational needs.

By integrating premium hospitality, enhanced accessibility, and contemporary fan amenities into one of college football’s most historic settings, the design balances preservation with progress. The completed renovation positions Bobby Dodd Stadium to remain a premier destination for Yellow Jackets fans while supporting Georgia Tech Athletics’ long-term vision for competitive excellence and an elevated game-day experience.
