Treatment, Research, and Healing
This cancer center at SUNY Upstate transforms patient care and collaboration at Central New York’s only academic medical center.
Upstate University Hospital Cancer Center
Syracuse, NY
SUNY Upstate Medical University is Central New York’s only academic medical center and the region’s largest employer. It is known for recruiting top medical professionals and advancing healthcare through education, research, and clinical care. To strengthen its mission and meet growing demand, SUNY Upstate created a new facility to consolidate cancer treatment, research, and patient support in one place.
The 158,000-square-foot cancer center provides researchers, physicians, patients, and visitors with cutting-edge medical experiences. The facility includes expansive staff support areas, collaboration zones, hospitality-inspired amenities, and spacious, comfortable waiting areas that promote a calming, patient-centered experience.
A three-story atrium—connected directly to the existing University Hospital lobby—serves as the central public circulation spine, uniting the hospital, medical school, and new cancer center. On the second-floor roof, a four-season healing garden provides a restorative outdoor space for patients, families, and staff.
SUNY Upstate now delivers a new model for integrated cancer care—where treatment, research, and healing converge in a single environment.
