McCosh Health Center

Princeton, NJ

Princeton University is widely recognized for academic excellence and a deep commitment to student well-being. University Health Services plays a vital role in that mission by delivering comprehensive medical, mental health, and wellness support to students and faculty.

To better serve a growing campus population and modernize care delivery, Princeton identified the need to renovate McCosh Health Center, which was originally opened over a century ago as the campus infirmary. The goals were clear: improve the patient and staff experience, upgrade clinical functionality, and preserve the building’s legacy.

The renovation transformed 34,600 SF of interior space to create a more efficient, welcoming, and integrated care environment. A new entrance and reception area streamline the check-in process while enhancing privacy. Exam rooms, lab services, counseling, and psychological services are now organized into clearly defined zones for improved accessibility and flow.

This thoughtful reorganization enhances operational efficiency and supports coordinated care, while the updated setting creates a more comfortable experience for students navigating physical or mental health concerns.

Today, the reimagined McCosh Health Center serves more than 12,500 students annually—continuing its legacy of support with a facility that meets the expectations of a 21st-century campus community.

“The renovation of McCosh’s first floor is an exciting development and promises to enhance the student health experience.”
