The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center Master Plan

Edgewater, MD

The Smithsonian Environmental Research leads research on coastal ecosystems—where the land meets the sea—to inform real-world decisions for wise policies, best business practices, and a sustainable planet. Their goal was to create a campus that reflects their underlying values, conserving our national resources. EwingCole planned this 2,560-acre campus to enable stewardship of the Rhode River watershed and used scientific principles to make decisions on facilities and land management in support of sustainable operations and natural resource management.

“EwingCole was instrumental in helping us achieve a truly holistic and strategic vision for our site. The team was completely on target and incorporated virtually all of our objectives into the capital plan. When others look back at our efforts 20 years from now, they will say ‘we got it right’.”
