NYPQ ICU and Inpatient Amenities Unit

Queens, NY

NewYork-Presbyterian is one of the country’s most comprehensive academic healthcare systems, serving diverse communities with high-quality, compassionate care. At NewYork-Presbyterian Queens (NYPQ), leadership prioritized expanding intensive care services and introducing a medical/surgical unit with private rooms to improve patient experience and clinical outcomes.

To achieve these goals, NYPQ commissioned the design of three 20-bed intensive care units and an 18-bed medical/surgical amenities unit. The new ICUs are acuity adaptable, allowing patients to remain on the unit as their care needs change, reducing unnecessary transfers and improving continuity of care.

The inpatient amenities unit offers single-patient rooms to promote comfort and privacy. The layout supports a personalized experience for patients and their families, with a range of spaces for social connection and quiet reflection. Large waiting areas and family rooms encourage visits and support systems, while smaller zones for respite and meditation offer privacy and calm. The design honors NYPQ’s multicultural patient population, ensuring that modesty, dignity, and cultural sensitivity are respected throughout the care environment.

This expansion strengthens NYPQ’s ability to deliver exceptional inpatient care tailored to individual needs and experiences.
