Wellness in Motion
A modern wellness center redefines the student experience by integrating fitness, rehabilitation, and mental health spaces designed to nurture both body and mind.
Student Wellness Center
West Long Beach, NJ
Located along New Jersey’s northern coastline, Monmouth University is a welcoming and dynamic setting for student development. The university is taking a bold step toward improving the health and well-being of its students and athletes. The future Student Wellness Center represents a transformative investment in holistic wellness, offering facilities that cater to physical fitness, injury recovery, and overall mental health. Serving more than 700 student-athletes and the greater campus community, the facility underscores the university’s commitment to fostering balance, performance, and resilience.
Expanding Access and Enhancing Care
To meet growing demand for health and training services, the project expands the existing 2,300-square-foot Sports Medicine Program to nearly 9,000 SF. The redesigned suite features a large open training area with state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment and dedicated space for exercise and treatment. A new hydrotherapy room features a treadmill pool, a hot pool, and a cold pool, supporting recovery for athletes across all disciplines.
The Fitness Center will double in size, providing additional strength and cardio equipment while maintaining a seamless connection to the EwingCole-designed Kessler Stadium. Expansive glazing floods the space with natural light and offers inspiring views of campus athletic fields.
Creating a Welcoming and Connected Environment
The design concept emphasizes openness, visibility, and connection—linking the Sports Medicine and Fitness Centers through a shared lobby and flexible gathering spaces. Warm wood tones, exposed structural elements, and abundant daylight create a setting that feels modern yet inviting. The facility’s high ceilings and transparent circulation encourage movement, collaboration, and community, while administrative and support spaces provide operational efficiency for staff and clinicians.
Future Impact
By integrating diverse wellness functions under one roof, the new Student Wellness Center empowers Monmouth University to deliver comprehensive, accessible care to every student. The design fosters physical recovery, mental rejuvenation, and social interaction, creating an environment that promotes student success both on the field and in the classroom.
