Adaptive Reuse for Educational Growth
MaST Community Charter School’s third campus transforms an office complex into a flexible, future-ready learning environment grounded in STEM and the arts.
MaST III – Roosevelt Campus
Philadelphia, PA
MaST Community Charter School, recognized nationally as a Blue Ribbon School, continues to expand its mission of providing high-quality, STEM-based education enriched by the arts and robotics. After earning a new charter to serve an additional 900 students, the school set out to develop a third campus—MaST III—to accommodate continued growth and uphold its innovative learning model.
Located in Northeast Philadelphia, the Roosevelt Campus transforms a 234,000-square-foot former office building into a vibrant academic environment. The master plan supports MaST’s phased enrollment strategy, allowing for incremental expansion and ensuring the facility evolves alongside the student body.
Designers reimagined the structure to reflect MaST’s identity while giving the new campus a distinct character. The design team established open, adaptable classrooms and collaborative learning zones by creatively repurposing demountable office partitions.
The recently completed second phase adds a 14,000-square-foot freestanding competition gymnasium, a new playground, an educational garden, and improved campus circulation—further enhancing the student experience.
