Built for Belonging
A new residence and dining hall strengthen student connection and honor the University’s historic campus fabric.
Caesar Rodney Hall
Newark, DE
The University of Delaware is one of the nation’s oldest institutions, known for its tradition of academic excellence and a campus culture that values connection, community, and service. To support its mission to foster student engagement and well-being, the University identified the need for a new residential facility to enhance social interaction while respecting the campus’s historic character.
To meet these goals, the University developed Caesar Rodney Hall—a 155,000 SF residence and dining complex strategically located at the heart of campus overlooking The Green. The new residence hall is organized into living communities of 36–39 students, with shared lounge areas and bathrooms located along the perimeter of student rooms. This configuration encourages daily interaction and builds residents’ strong sense of community.
Attached to the hall is a new dining facility serving over 6,000 fresh meals daily. Designed around a marketplace-style layout, the dining space emphasizes small-batch, exhibition-style cooking that enhances food quality and student experience.
This LEED Silver-certified facility reflects the University’s sustainability goals while delivering a student-centered environment that supports academic success, personal growth, and campus connection.
As a result, Caesar Rodney Hall has become a central destination on campus—linking students to one another and to the historic core of the University of Delaware.
