Asplundh Cancer Pavilion

Abington, PA

Abington Jefferson Health is committed to improving lives through innovation in care, education, and discovery. With more than 90,000 residents in its service area living with or recovering from cancer, the health system recognized the need for a dedicated facility that would offer comprehensive care in an environment intentionally designed to support healing.

The Asplundh Cancer Pavilion stands apart for its deeply integrated approach to landscape and architecture. Rather than isolating a healing garden, the design reflects the client’s vision of a building immersed in nature. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding ecology, the site shapes the architecture, connecting patients, caregivers, and families to a restored and thriving landscape throughout the facility.

“Our design team did an incredible job bringing the outdoors into the Pavilion with abundant natural light, birch and moss design elements, and views of the surrounding greenery. Research shows that the environment has an effect on the burden of disease and healing times, so we were sure to make each choice thoughtfully.”

– Peg O’Grady, Administrative Director, Oncology Abington – Jefferson Health

Inside and out, the design prioritizes comfort, daylight, and views, creating a calming, natural environment that enhances the healing process. The result is a cancer care destination defined by its clinical excellence and unique and restorative connection to place.
