From Supermarket to Specialty Care
Through innovative adaptive reuse, this retail space in Nassau County now delivers streamlined, multispecialty outpatient services in a patient-centered setting.
Ambulatory Care Center
East Meadow, NY
To better serve its Long Island patient population, a leading healthcare system sought to expand its reach by creating a high-quality outpatient facility close to home. Lacking appropriate medical infrastructure in the area, the organization turned to adaptive reuse, transforming a former 50,000-square-foot supermarket into a state-of-the-art ambulatory care center.
The new center consolidates 30 specialty practices under one roof, offering orthopedics, physical therapy, neurology, and more services. With 60 exam rooms and the capacity to treat over 350 patients daily, the facility enhances access and improves care coordination by fostering collaboration among providers.
EwingCole’s design leverages the building’s generous ceiling heights and natural light to create an uplifting, patient-focused environment. Warm finishes, natural materials, and soft textiles contribute to a calming, hospitality-inspired atmosphere, turning what was once a utilitarian retail space into a vibrant, healing destination for the community.
