Angela Matchica

Director of Cultural Projects, Principal

Angela Matchica, PE, LC, LEED AP is a Principal at EwingCole and the firm’s Director of Cultural Projects. She is responsible for the development and leadership of EwingCole’s national cultural practice, shepherding the creation of built environments that support education, visitor experience, collection display, and spur curiosity and discovery.

Since joining the firm in 2007, as the Director of Lighting and an Electrical Engineer, she contributed to a diverse range of projects, experience in the planning, design, and construction of a spectrum of cultural projects, working with clients such as the Franklin Institute, Liberty Science Center, the Mann Center, the Philadelphia Phillies, Princeton University, the Smithsonian Institution, Susquehanna Art Museum, and Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library, and the Yale Center for British Art. Angela has also focused her professional career on sustainable and high-efficiency building design, working as the lead lighting designer for the firm’s largest net-zero building.

Angela’s passion for sustainable design leads to innovative solutions to minimize energy use and reduce the carbon footprint for long-term client success. Her work often incorporates methods to reduce lighting power usage and optimize daylight, understanding the importance of designing for flexibility, ease of use, and longevity while maintaining high quality environments, which is critical for collection-based institutions.

Angela holds a dual master’s/bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering, lighting and electrical design, from Pennsylvania State University. She is a member of the American Alliance of Museums and the International Association of Museum Facility Administrators.
