MYRTLE BEACH, SC (April 2026) – Ahead of their home opener, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans debuted a new series of upgrades to Pelicans Ballpark, signaling a new chapter for both player development and the fan experience. Designed by EwingCole, the enhancements deliver targeted improvements that elevate how players train, recover, and prepare, while introducing new opportunities for fan engagement throughout the ballpark.
At the core of the project is a new, 28,200 SF Clubhouse addition, which introduces state-of-the-art strength and conditioning areas, expanded hydrotherapy and recovery zones, nutrition, and upgraded locker room accommodations that balance performance, focus, and comfort. designed to support the full arc of a player’s day, from preparation to post-game recovery.
“The renovation positions the clubhouse as a performance-driven environment aligned with the evolving standards of professional baseball,” said Craig Schmitt, RA Principal at EwingCole. “We approached the project through the lens of daily routines, studying how players move through the space and identifying opportunities to better support coaching, training, recovery, and team cohesion.”
Included in the new Clubhouse is “The Diamond,” a flexible 9,380 SF training space that serves as both batting and hitting tunnels and a multi-use event space, which is designed to transition seamlessly between player development and community use, accommodating groups of up to 625 people. The Diamond will support local and regional events, private rentals, meetings, and team functions, extending the clubhouse’s value beyond gameday while maintaining its primary role as a high-performance training facility.
“We set out to create an environment that supports the Chicago Cubs and our players at the highest level while continuing to elevate the experience for everyone who comes through our gates or uses our facilities on game days and non-game days alike,” said Pelicans Owner, Chuck Greenberg. “EwingCole listened closely to our goals and translated them into a thoughtful, high-performing design that delivers for our team, our fans, and the community as a whole, twelve months a year. We are proud of what we have built together and excited to see it come to life this season.”
Beyond the clubhouse, a series of targeted upgrades extends the project’s impact across the ballpark. EwingCole converted the existing visiting clubhouse into dedicated male and female umpire facilities, relocated bullpens off the field, and refined the outfield wall to support both safety and playability.
Additional improvements include new stadium seating, a new scoreboard control room, and upgraded press and broadcast spaces that respond to the demands of modern game-day production. A new, larger LED scoreboard and field- level LED ribbon boards bring added energy to the fan experience, while a pre-engineered maintenance facility and secure player parking improve operational efficiency behind the scenes.
The renovation arrives as the Myrtle Beach Pelicans head into their 27th season in the ballpark. Pelicans Ballpark is a vital economic engine for the City of Myrtle Beach, attracting tourists, supporting local businesses, and generating year-round revenue through games, events, and community programs. As a regional cultural hub, the ballpark fosters civic pride, provides affordable family entertainment, and creates opportunities for youth sports, concerts, and community gatherings that strengthen ties across the Grand Strand.
