Rutgers Camden’s waterfront athletic complex revitalizes a former stadium site, supporting collegiate sports and community engagement.

Camden, NJ
Following the demolition of Campbell’s Field in 2019, Rutgers University–Camden and the Rowan University–Rutgers Camden Board of Governors saw an opportunity to transform a prime riverfront site into a vital athletic resource for the university and broader community. The new Camden Athletic Complex replaces the historic ballpark with a multi-sport, community-serving destination located at the intersection of Pearl Street, Penn Street, and Delaware Avenue.
To meet the needs of Rutgers–Camden’s NCAA Division III programs and student-athletes, the complex includes a synthetic turf baseball field and a multipurpose field that supports soccer, lacrosse, and other sports. An eight-lane track, pole vault area, and steeplechase course accommodate track and field events, while a new clubhouse provides locker rooms, bathrooms, and training space.
Additional improvements include sports lighting, 26 new parking spaces, bike racks, and enhanced stormwater management features to improve sustainability and site performance.
The complex strengthens Rutgers–Camden’s athletic offerings and extends its impact into the community—creating space for intramural sports, club teams, and recreational use. With the Ben Franklin Bridge rising behind center field and the Philadelphia skyline just beyond, the site has earned praise as one of the “best backdrops in college baseball,” merging high-performance athletics with an unforgettable sense of place.
