LEED Expertise

EwingCole is committed throughout all our disciplines to integrating innovative environmental design strategies into our work. The LEED Rating System, a benchmarking system established by the US Green Building Council, is part of standard practice with our professionals at EwingCole. We discuss the value and effective usage of this tool frequently with ALL clients, and have numerous success stories involving LEED certification as a part of project delivery model. Since EwingCole can provide architectural, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, plumbing engineering, interior design, cost estimating, structural engineering, fire protection engineering, site planning and feasibility studies, master-planning, all within the same large practice, we are committed to successful integrated design services. LEED certification helps reinforce best practices that are core values to how EwingCole helps our clients solve complex problems. Our experience includes specialized expertise in the following areas: Energy Modeling- EwingCole focuses on team collaboration and expertise to help complete top-notch facilities with energy efficient best practices and new technologies as a part of our delivery model. With that in mind, EC provides energy modeling services (including LEED compliant modeling services) for many of our clients. If you have a favorite energy modeling consultant you would like us to work with, we also collaborate effectively. Today’s LEED compliant and high-performance green buildings require sophisticated teams that work well together. We recommend including energy modeling computer services thru our mechanical engineering division. Daylighting Analysis- EwingCole has an integrated lighting design practice that works with our clients to identify best practices and solutions to integrate energy efficient lighting systems into our facilities design. In the 21st century, daylighting controls, size and location of windows, usage of skylights and clerestories, and knowledge of available electronics systems are critical to quality lighting solutions that reduce energy usage. We excel in these areas. Commissioning Services- EwingCole focuses on design engineering of new and renovated facilities. For our LEED track clients, we typically begin the commissioning services integration into our projects, but we do not typically provide commissioning services. We recommend a third party commissioning agent be identified early in the project (recommended no later than design development), and we assist our clients in selecting and managing the appropriate level of commissioning services. LEED Documentation- EwingCole has over 60 LEED Accredited Professionals, including architects, engineers, interior designers, construction administration personnel, senior leadership, and project managers. We typically integrate cost effective LEED documentation services into our projects. Our expertise in LEED credits and compliance can be found in all areas of our practice. Green Design Charrette Facilitation- EwingCole has a standard methodology for overlaying environmental design strategies with design and engineering services. The inclusion of critical coordination meetings, LEED charrettes, and issue resolution are part of our practice, and we have experts that effectively facilitate very diverse project teams from 2 to 40 people, depending on the project scale and team setup.
