Innovative Environmental Design:

Olympus America

Olympus America selected the site for its new headquarters in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley, relocating from Long Island. The new campus capitalizes on a rich natural environment which provided multiple design cues for the Japanese-inspired facility. The design facilitates Olympus's push for a change in corporate culture by developing a completely open office environment with only seven fully-enclosed offices. The main administrative space is developed along a centralized team environment that allows all occupants complete access to natural light from the glass exterior walls. A raised floor system throughout the office provides complete flexibility with voice, data, under-floor air, and electrical distribution systems, as well as a better indoor environment for working. In addition, a 7,000 sf secure data center provides connectivity and access to support worldwide operations. Several outdoor gathering spaces with views of the campus lake, pond, and surrounding mountain-scape are key elements of the space. Although LEED certification was not formally pursued, the facility integrated key environmental design elements into its success, including environmentally-friendly materials, a very energy efficient under-floor HVAC system, high quality lighting systems, and amenities for its employees to minimize their impact and emissions.
