The KLARC is an integrated athletic and recreation center, the ‘place to be’ on campus. The 40,000 sf renovation and 140,000 sf addition provides facilities for intercollegiate athletic programs while promoting recreational opportunities for the general student body. New spaces include a fitness center, ICA weight training facility, 50 meter natatorium and 4,000 seat Sojka Pavilion. The design resolves sports and recreation scheduling conflicts by thoughtfully combining new and existing facilities into a new social center that promotes the feeling of community on campus. “My wife Sandy and I spent many years in the Big Ten and we certainly have been in larger and more commodious arenas, but we have never seen one appointed as nicely. Such good sightlines combined with a kind of intimacy seems most appropriate for an institution of our size and our type. I believe Bucknell will get many years of outstanding use from this great new facility. It is almost certain to improve our overall recruitment profile as well as provide additional opportunities for all of our students, not just our varsity athletes. For one, I could not be happier than I am with the overall concept and design of Bucknell’s new pavilion. Gary A. Sojka, Gary A. Sokja Pavilion, Bucknell University
