Smithsonian Environmental Research Center
SERC is a world-renowned center supporting the work of resident and visiting researchers. The 3000-acre campus has historic structures and sites scattered in open, wooded and waterfront areas where monitoring, research and outreach occurs. A project goal is to develop a sustainable plan integrated into their mission and operations. Among the first projects is a central plant for all campus buildings using geothermal energy and a new research lab seeking LEED Gold certification.
