Smithsonian Environmental Research Center

$29 million new two-story laboratory addition on the south side of the existing Mathias Lab building. Under this project the existing Mathias Lab (Building 100) will remain but will require selective renovation including the relocation or “rezoning” of numerous labs and offices as well as other spaces and the creation of storage facilities. The Mathias Lab Expansion project will also utilize Laboratories for the 21st Century (Labs21) design guidelines for project development. It is anticipated that the project will be able to attain LEED Gold certification.
