Good Samaritan Hospital

Catholic Health Services of Long Island selected EwingCole to master plan and design a new 220-bed hospital addition at Good Samaritan Hospital, the largest of its five hospitals on Long Island. The master plan includes the modernization of the original 1959 hospital, new site circulation, parking and landscapes, and the selected demolition of older structures. The strategic goal of the project is to create a new identity for Good Samaritan Hospital as a destination hospital for cardiac, maternity and orthopedic care, and expand its capability to provide emergency care. The addition of 220 patient rooms will also allow the conversion of most of its 437 beds into single patient rooms. A new six-story addition will feature a new 55,000 sf emergency department, surgical suite with 8 new operating rooms, new lobby and entrance, 190 medical/surgical beds, 50 medical intensive care beds, and mother/baby services including a neonatal intensive care unit conceptually planned for 32 infants and will be flexibly designed to accommodate multiple levels of care. A new support services building with loading docks will be included with connections to other areas of the hospital campus. Additional renovations are planned for support services, existing critical care, central sterile, and pathology. Upon completion of these projects, a new parking garage with connections to the Main Building will complete the expansion. This project is currently pursuing LEED Silver certification.
