This new nine-story, 320,000 square-foot addition to Geisinger Medical Center in central Pennsylvania is friendly to staff and centered on the patient using an acuity-adaptable concept. This care model brings the required level of care to patients while they remain in one room throughout their entire hospitalization. In addition to the acuity-adaptable care delivery model, the design incorporates evidence-based concepts. The building’s shape allows natural light and nature views into patient rooms, staff offices and corridors creating an all-around bright, healing atmosphere. The new hospital features a “public” concourse on the first floor expanding the existing diagnostics area and incorporating cardiology clinics and a cardiology rehabilitation facility. The second floor houses the new surgery suite which includes 4 new operating rooms. The upper floors contain a mix of cardiology, vascular and thoracic services and 60 inpatient acuity-adaptable single rooms. The Hospital for Advanced Medicine has been submitted to review by the U.S. Green Building Council and is expected to achieve a LEED Silver certification.
